Anyone who wants to drive a motor vehicle must have permission to operate a motor vehicle. Your driving licence is a certificate of permission to operate a motor vehicle. You only need a copy of the index card if you still have a paper driver's license that has not been issued or already recorded by your current road traffic authority.
The following data is required for the application:
- Surname
- first name
- Birth Name
- birth date
- Contact details of the foreign driving license office
You can either request your index card copy online from the LBV using the contact form at the top of this page, or you can send an email to fuehrerschein@lbv.hamburg.de, stating your first name, last name, maiden name, date of birth and the contact details of the driving license office.
If your paper driver's license was not issued in Hamburg, request the copy of the index card from where your driver's license was issued and have it sent by E-FAX to the LBV on 040-4279-28 200.
If you want to steer a vehicle on a federal waterway as a ship or boat driver, you need a driver's license for the respective class.
The international driver's license can be applied for at the LBV offices as well as at the customer center in Hamburg-City .
