If you want to use the online ID card function as a providing organization in your own application, you need an authorization certificate.

If you perform official duties for the Federal Republic of Germany abroad, you may be issued an official passport by the Federal Foreign Office under certain conditions. Depending on the activity, you may receive a diplomatic passport or a service passport.

Your new ID card is ready for collection from the relevant ID card authority. You can collect it in person or by proxy with a collection authorisation.

You can declare in writing to the identity card authority at any time (during the validity of the identity card) that you wish to use the electronic proof of identity function, which has not yet been activated, from now on.

The identity card authority will then subsequently activate the electronic proof of identity function.

In many countries outside the European Union (EU) you need a passport when entering the country. With German citizenship, you can apply for a German passport.

Have you lost your identity card? Then you must report this. In addition, you must apply for a new identity card if you are over 16 years old and do not have any other valid passport document.

If you live abroad, you can apply for your German passport at a German diplomatic representation abroad.
